Hi all,

As an apprentice I know a small amount about IP ratings and would like advise on whether the bathroom light in my parents house is IP rated.

My thoughts is that it does not look IP rated and I can't see an IP rating on the fitting. My parents seem to thing that it was an IP fitting when they bought it years ago.

I have added a picture of the fitting to see if my suspicions are correct.

Thanks in advance

How high is the ceiling?
Is the light fitting likely to get wet in normal use?
All equipment has to be suitable for its environment, if it is outside Zone 2,( 2.25m high), then there may be no need for any IP protection, however if they regularly spray the ceiling with the shower, then IPX5 or 6 may be more suitable.
You get a pointer from the Regs, but the local environment is what is more relevant (so long as the Regs are applied)
I cannot see any IP markings on the photo, but that doesnt mean anything, they may be on the outside etc.
