Hi guys job today for nuisance rcd tripping ,I thought it was an appliance as I explained in a post yesterday but turns out it wasn't . Anyway disconnected the only neon I could see , unplugged everything run an IR test ,great neutral to earth but earth to live 0.02 . Checked every socket , I found a few oxidised cables and gather there's a few joins due to single cables at various sockets . Would there be anything I'm missing that would give me a reading of 0.02 ? I realise with the oxidised cables it should be rewired but I got a perfect reading on the earth to neutral and would presume if the cables had deteriorated that much surely it would of affected them all in some way ?
Also tried a ramp test but it would instantly trip ?
any ideas would be much appreciated .

thanks to any replies in advance

Are you talking about 0.02 ohms or 0.02 meg?
I'd be thinking about hidden JBs in your position, is the bloke going to rewire?

Check the IR of the socket outlet, disconnected from the wiring, particularly where the cables are oxidised - damp is the likely culprit.

Split the ring, if you still get 0.02 on one leg the short should be 2.74 mts from where you are measuring from. I would get a wander lead and start checking between both L&E and dabbing on recent nails and screws etc.
Thats if we are talking ohms

Central heating pump faulty.
What has a neon got to do with it?
Test with L and N together, to earth, this should show your fault.
DB off ofcourse.
ramp test with RCD outputs disconnected, not just breakers off!

Hi guys thanks for all the replies
didn't even think about ramp test with the faulty circuit removed Doh !
The heating pump is on a separate circuit and I tested at 250v just incase I missed an appliance.
The guy doesn't want to rewire but I would still like to get to the bottom of this all the same.
Thanks again

I'm gonna spend a lot of it on beer and drugs, the rest I'll just waste

Wasn't that a great quote by George, Im suprised he made it to 59. I had a stint helping my uncle deliver props around London in my teens, we were on the Kings Street once and saw this bloke nissed as a pewt with cowboy boots on and a leather jacket holding up some railings, my uncle got really excited and said " thats Goerge Best"
