i've been told ANYONE can work on electrics even if you are not qualified?! Surely this cant be true.
They said all you would need to do is get a qualified electrician to check the work?

Yes electrical work can be carried out by anyone that is competant and also testing. In theory this means someone with no formal qualifications can do electrical installion work.


A competent person is someone who possesses sufficient knowledge and skill to undertake electrical work without a risk of danger to themselves and other people. p22

i've always had a broad knowledge of electrics as i have often studied it as my old man is a spark. Also having worked for him on and off for years.

So in theory, i could go self employed tommorow and advertise as a spark and earn a living.

So why am i spending 4k to get qualified haha!

IMO yes. Then if something goes belly up you will have the quals. Also for insurance purposes.
