Well this is my second year in college and now studying for C&G 2330 level 3 (motors and testing etc) course...
But now im debating whether to stick with it, and its not cause i dont like it or whatever its just is there work out there for all these in-training sparks?? I've emailed to every company i can think of that relates to any form of electrical work and i haven't heard back of any of them:/ After my first year however i love this trade though  and love listening to stories on here and of our tutors tell us about all the past experience and all the current jobs that they've got... But the way the climate is even experienced sparks are out of work so do us 'newbies' have any chance of getting any place with a firm? The only other option i can see is the forces and going to Afghan and being an electrician there... :behead:

This isn't a moaning thread either and i know its not just the electrical trade that's suffering its everyone, but now with my dad mentioning 'keep' every f****ng day i might just go to afghan

Well does anyone in college want to put there thoughts forward of trouble they are having getting placements etc.?

if i was young enough and had fully functioning knees i would have joined the navy or the air force as an apprentice to get my qualifications. I think the standard of the apprenticeship will be much much higher than anything yould get in a local company, the pay would be better and the respect yould get after for serving would mean that yould be head and shoulders above any other candidate when you look for a job after serving. i wouldnt necessarily go into the army to do it, i dont think ild be able to cope with being a front line soldier and i dont believe i have the courage to do it either. But working on a ship away from the front line or on an air base would have suited me down to the ground. Ive just started an electrical engineering apprenticeship, and while i would end up with the same qualifications as someone whos served in the armed forces, i would rate their abilities, experiences and capabilities way way over my own.
