Hi all
I am quite new to the trade so I apologise if this is a stupid question. My experience is limited to wiring central heating systems. I have never really paid any attention to the electrics in my own home until recently. In my CSU there is a sticker underneath the main breaker and it says that the "maximum load should not exceed 63amps". However the 1st 4 MCB's are all 30 amps. Then there is a 15amp MCB and lastly a 5amp. This totals 140amps. Is this normal, and more importantly, is it safe?

Firstly to answer your last question without seeing the board and carrying out an inspection i dont know , as for the MCB sizes yes its normal as you have the diversity to take into consideration , the mcb ratings are relevent to the circuit they protect for over load and faults if you have a fault on each circuit at the same time then yes there might be a problem thats when the main fuse will fail thus you are protected having said that the chances of that happening must be million to 1 , judging by the MCB sizes you have quoted they are bs3871 approx 35 years old , i would recommend that you get your property inspected by a regestered spark who will confirm your last question
