Is my supply up to it

Fitting an electric shower and am waiting for a sparky to connect new shower CU to meter.

Checked meter and it is only rated at 40A 240V. Fuse is marked as 60A. Existing CU rated at 80A.

Will I need to get DNO to upgrade meter?

40A seems low to me. call to DNO is first option i think. and get em to upgrade fuse as well.

Is it one of those older types with all the dials, I think they are rated at 40, mind you the only time I saw one fail a neutral had loosened and burnt out but as above get it upgraded

They will only upgrade the Fuse if the tails are upto it. As it's the old cog and dial type then most likely they will change it on request, though there still might be a charge.

I checked website for local DNO which is NEDL. It says any query on meter should be referred to supplier (British Gas). I have seen in other posts that DNO should be responsible for upgrade. Which is right?

The meter is actually the suppliers ie for you British gas. I know it don't make sense but that is the way it is. So you need to contact BG and they will come and see and then arrange with your DNO for fitting if they agree to change it.

Hi mate I just had my brothers upgraded BG will replace the meter for a digital meter and if you ask for them to upgrade tails and fuse and they fitted a wylex 100Amp main isolator switch at the same time its £39 all in wether you have one or all replaced
