If a qualified electrical engineer working in thesteelworks with many years experience wanted to replace a cooker in his ownhouse, would he need part P? Which after all, is part of the building regs andnot BS7671 is it not.
The Electricity at Work Regs state that a person must becompetent to carry out electrical work, and therefore he could prove hiscompetency by virtue of his qualifications and experience.

if changing the cooker without altering the circuit supplying it, then part p does not apply. it would if you were uprating the cable , say, from 6mm to 10mm

Hasn't anyone told you that domestic electrickery is far more dangerous than that stuff you use to run a steel works? Thats why we have part P.

Sorry, ranting as I just finished a re-wire on a primary school. From the sub-main up to the class 1 hand driers, 4 to 10 year old kids, part P? nah.

It has very little to do with competence, its more to do with a statutory procedure that the Government has introduced, but failed to tell Joe public

Anyone can install
The procedure is to install only after Labc approval, paying them an administartion and test/inspection fee

Some work in a house is notifiable to them, other work may not be notifiable

This procedure can be bypassed by becoming a member of a competent person scheme who assess members for entry using abysmally low electrical standards

Other than that, the vast majority, who have never heard of part p,they could be said to be living in ignorant but inexpensive bliss
