I've emailed over 57 companies, phoned 20 or so major companies and they just simply don't have any work...

With thousands of electricians being made jobless and hundreds of companies going bust, as much as I HATE TO SAY IT, it makes me wonder if I should consider a career change?

The only option I see is to apply for government funded organizations. If you get a job with them you got it made! But the chances of getting one with all the jobless sparks out there are next to none....

My dream of starting up my own electrical business is purely that! A bloody dream!

Regardless, I'm not putting down my cutters just yet!

All depends on what area/field you want to work in, maybe you are being too specific. Personally there isnt enough hours in the day for the requests Im getting...............so fortunately very choosy on the work I do.

too bad you live in wales.... I'd ask you for a job :(

All sectors; domestic commercial and industrial - No work in my area...

Bloody hell Oxford must be hit bad. Mate of mine lost his job at Daf (simple choice, it was him or the boss..........) and struggled to find work in the area. He re-joined the Army!!!!

I even considered setting up my own business and find work myself just to get by, but without backing of nic or elecsa I don't have a chance...

Dorsets not faring too badly either, maybe not the best time to start a new business but the work is around for existing companies

its really hard at the minute, ive only got bits of work here and there and im desperately looking for something sub contracting! I started up in january and agree that it was not the best time to start a new business.

If you think there is enough work in your area to go self employed, just knock together a business plan balancing what you can expect to bring in versus congoing osts and start up costs. You might find it actually works for you.
