Hi Chaps...

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is such a thing :

dawn - dusk sensor -----> basically a photocell but in reverse -----> need it to trigger a pond pump to work in daylight hours.

No probs if not time clock it will be, but customer would prefer sensor.

So thought I'd ask.

Relay rather than a contactor.

Is there any photocells with normally open and normally closed terminals? if not can you install a relay in the circuit so when the photocell is in light and open circuit the relay is de-energised and runs the pump, then when the photocell is energised it switches the relay which will turn the pump off?

sounds a good plan, but may have to experiment with a couple of capacitor values across the relay coil.being inductive, it could upset the photocell.

You might find a standard photocell with a changeover switch instead of the usual normally open if you look around. Here's quite a nice Square D offering but I'm sure theres others.
