Hi all,

I've been doing some mapping of the wiring in this property I recently purchased, the cabling for the main living and bedrooms appears to be a radial circuit (see plan, starts at the green dot, red obviously sockets and purple is the wiring). This circuit connects to a 32amp circuit breaker, and I presume it was laid in the 70s/80s. From what I understand 4mm T&E cables are required for a 32amp radial circuit. I wondered whether the cabling used is suitable for this, it measures about 11mm wide and the wires are solid core, I don't have a tool to measure this wire but see attached photo.

I would be grateful for any advise on this, also does the wiring layout look okay or would a full rewire be sensible?

That phase cable under your finger (hope it was dead) does look to be a bit larger than 2.5mm, but difficult to tell from a photo, what would be more helpful, if you are competent enough, is a picture of the inside of your consumer unit, does the wiring/unit have any RCD protection?

Not home at the minute, but its a proteus unit with no RCD protection at all, that circuit is connected to this exact same circuit breaker https://www.amazon.co.uk/PROTEUS-TYPE-CIRCUIT-BREAKER-632BW/dp/B007FC30WQ

Seems I can't post links yet, I'm not home at the minute, but its a proteus unit with no RCD protection at all, that circuit is connected to this exact same circuit breaker:

You need to get a competent electrician to carry out and EICR (electrical installation condition report) I would think at a minimum it will recommend a CU upgrade with minimum two RCD's or better a full RCBO board.

Eventually may be too late for some poor soul carrying out renovations to your recently purchased property, I suggest getting it done as a matter of priority, it wont change, just need updating, unless a full re-wire is required.
