Hi Guys,

Just a quick one, on a power rewire is it acceptable to wire new cables under floor and join onto old legs of circuit but only from socket to underfloor. So only about a foot of existing cable left in to stop damage to walls.

Thanks

as i understand it, you want to use the old cable in the walls to avoid chasing in new. if you do this :

1. old cables need to give a good IR reading.
2. your joints under the floor need to be maintenance free, i.e. crimp and heatshrink or wagos in enclosures.
3. 2 colour sticker on CU, if applicable.

however, although you can make this idea comply with BS7671, joints should be avoided wherever possible.

That sounds like a lot of joints ? What was wrong with the original cables?

Surely your making more work for yourself this way, and if you don't crimp tightly enough they come away your liable why not just take the plunge and chase the cables into the walls or will customer not let you?

Also if your needing to rewire surely the customer expects a little bit of damage to the walls

As Tel.....joints to be accessable (unless maintinence free)....but i would say that if a customer wants a rewire then thats what they should get ....leaving old cable/s as part of the job dont constitute a full rewire to me......maybe the customer dont want walls damaging by chasing etc but they should think about that before ordering the work............

one of the best ones we found once was how the "competent person" had cept the vir both legs from the board and joint boxet it onto pvc for the ring....no cpc...nowt........competent person...my ar$e.....
