Good day. Is there something wrong with this junction box (code violation) for a wall fixture? It is secured to studs. Old construction. Need it for a heavy fixture (16lb), usual boxes are rated up to 10 pounds and I don't want to cut the wall to install wood support. Previous fixture was installed without a box. The only thing I can see is that three wires are separated, not inside sleeve, but it was like this before. Previous fixture had splices inside the wall cavity and ground wire was disconnected. That is how it came came from the builder. House was built in 1997. Thank you.[ElectriciansForums.net] Is this junction box up to codes?

You can go to Lowes or Home Depot and purchase a ceiling fan box which has a brace that you can adjust to the studs without having access to the attic.
