Hello all, Just after a bit of guidance please.

A friend has just finished work on fitting a new conservatory, a wall was removed and the ring main was not added to but re-arranged (altered i guess) none of this was in the kitchen, but the removal of the wall has created a kitchen / diner.

A feed for an outside light was taken from a ceiling rose which is in the kitchen. All this work was done by notifying local planning and the building work has been accepted no problem. The chap that came round said that the electrics will need to be signed off, does this mean that the lighting circuit and the ring main needs testing and certification or does he mean that it is notifiable (The extension to the radial in the kitchen)

I've been collared as i got my 17th and full scope part P and am waiting for NICEIC to asses me at the end of the month. I'm happy that the work has been done correctly as he used to work with an electrician, and would be doing it as a favor. from looking at regs i think it may be notifiable, but would like some practical advice.

Unfortunately I have not had the benefit of an apprenticeship so I am still finding my way any help would be greatly appreciated.

Approved document states page 9..

(i) The installation of equipment attached to the wall of a house is NOT notifiable provided there are no exposed outdoor connections and the work does not involve the installation of a new circuit OR the extension of a circuit in a kitchen or a special location..
So if you have extended a radial into the kitchen I would say it's notifiable, the lights well again if it's a new circuit..

Thanks Steve that's really helpful. Nothing seems straight forward! Appreciate you taking the time to answer.

When you say you'll be doing this as a favour, do you mean you're planning on signing/notifying this work off?

Your NICEIC terms and approved document P strictly forbids this.

True
It would need to be done under a Building Notice, and as long as you are competent to complete the BS7671 forms, and send them the forms and your proof of competency your good to go, I refer you to 1.21 to 1.23 of the approved document

You should definately NOT sign off someone elses work,it is not permitted for good reason,if your friend cant notify himself he must pay the fee to BC to get it signed off.

Thanks for all the update, I'll give him the good news! I didn't know that i wasn't able to test and notify other peoples work. Bit more reading needed for me I think. thanks for the help though.

Hi Timo1
I believe your tread has two different aspects: 1= Certification, 2= Notification.

1-Certification: Whatever alteration or addition you do, you MUST issue certificate (EIC or MEWC) irrespective to are you Part P registered or not.
2- Notification: If the jobs are notifiable ( I believe they are):
a: You are not part P registered: You MUST notify LA minimum 48Hrs before starting the job.
b: You are Part P registered: You can notify the job after finishing it. ( Mostly through the Scheme provider ) but only YOUR job.

Best of luck
