this is the plug for a shower pump installed by homebase contractors into my airing cupboard

apparantly that is fine and was left plugged in for us to use over christmas ??
could this be why it trips out the immersion heater switch on my fuse box ??

If it is tripping out the immersion heater mcb then that could be the reason. The shower pump should not be connected to the immersion heater circuit. That is another problem. You should get a qualified electrician in to check/rectify the work. Post your location and someone from the forum might be near and will maybe sort it for you.

As Hawk81 has said that is definately not right & you need to get them back to sort it out before you use it again. It should'nt trip out you Immersion heater switch unless someone has run a socket from this cicuit.

there is a double socket installed into the cupboard,
somebody asked if i had a certificate from them for the installation, but i was told by the fitter that they send it to the council and i receive it in about 30 days ??

did the fitter have NICEIC ELESCA NAPIT logo on his van? if so contact them and ask the same questions you have asked here as he should NOT be carrying out cruddy work like that ffs making a plug off like that is downright scandelous

Im assuming you got the job arranged through HomeBase id also go to them witht he pictures and ask WHY you have been left with unsafe stuff like this in a loud enough voice that other customers can hear

The reason for the 3 conductors showing bare cable is the old Stanley knive way of stripping the outside whit insulation and he has cut too deep also spurring or taking the supply off an imerssion circuit is a no no also where is the pump is it under the bath or in the cupboard

I could get shot down for this but...........are socket outlets allowed in airing cupboards in the UK ??
Should the pump not be on its own RCB ?

I'm in Ireland, and we'd have to have the pump on its own RCB, and the only electricial items allowed in the airing cupboard are stats and the supply to the immersion heater (switched from outside the cupboard)

OK lads, shoot away...:83:

Theres no need for a comment about the plug top, it is clearly wrong / unsafe and has already been covered here

if immersion on its own circuit ie 16a whats the problem in fitting a spur unit adj immersion spur and fusing it at 3a for shower pump

This is what defined scope gets you, dont see gas safe having a defined scope do you ie, "well, i wire boilers in all the time, so i figured i would do a 3 day course and start ****ing about with gas"

plumbers wiring is shocking-literally
christ sake.

As the chaps have pointed out (apart from Roger, who seems to like your nails), the installation looks substandard, particularly the plug terminations.

Also, do you regularly use the immersion heater or are you on gas for hot water?
