Boys, it's me again...

Hubby and I have just ripped out our en-suite shower cubicle, and removed all of the loft insulation between the stud wall beams to find the socket as attached. I'm a little concerned, as this was hidden in the wall and the back of the socket backs into the shower cubicle... Is it safe to just leave it there? There is a 3pin socket on the other side of the wall that we have been using.

When the walls get re-boarded, I will be re-insulating between the plasterboards, new plasterboards will be going on and then those boards will be suitably waterproofed to prevent water leaking from the shower cubicle.

Any help appreciated, as always

So this soket in another room will have insulation, plasterboard and a impermiable membrane between it and the shower?
If so yes, it should be fine.
(there are no sockets within 3m of the shower in the same room are there)

there are no 3 pin sockets within 3m of the shower in the en-suite no. and yes, the socket goes into the other wall. I was just surprised to see it when we pulled the insulation out between the beams. thought I would check to make sure, as the whole house appears to be a Barratts Bodge Job.

and yes, new insulation, new plasterboard and, what us tilers call Tanking will go up first, and then tile over all that. I'll also make sure that the shower tray is securely sealed so that no water can leak from it.

cheers chucky egg

well the en-suite was never tanked and you wonder why there's the lovely water stains on the ceiling in the lounge... seems ludicrous to me that wet areas on the first floor in properties are not suitably waterproofed and no requirement to do so within UK building regs... bonkers..

One day, when I'm feeling brave, I'll get an electrician in to give me his honest opinion of the electrics...

Hi GirlRacerRed

What products do you use to Tank the shower areas?

I have used a product called Mapegum by Mapei. They also do a roll of membrane, but I don't recall the name of it. If it's a shower area, then you'll be wise to tank before your tile :D
