I suppose you think we all have some sort of superpower to enable us to know exactly what your talking about?? Post a photo or two, or describe in ''Detail'' what it is you are on about!! Personally i can't think of any ''Isolators'' old, or not so new, that contained asbestos....

Careful now as you tiptoe among the shrinking violets ;)

I thought asbestos needs removing by a specialist team, or if left untouched causes no harm to people either? It's only when messing with it that it causes a problem because all the little particles get disturbed

If the isolator or switch fuse is old enough to have it as arc arresters it may have asbestos in the rope seal on the door, so really you can't open it to find out or replace a fuse ect.

Firstly it's an old mem isolator with ceramic rewireable fuses behind the fuse in the carrier is an asbestos protector
secondly I'm new on the forum that was my first post and the first reply I got was by an arsehole . So not sure about this forum now . do me a favour stay in china

Just to reply to you Geordie spark about engineer 54 comments I'm new on the forum and this was my first post the asbestos I'm on about is the packer In an old mem isolator behind the ceramic fuse in the carrier . But not sure about the forum now as the first reply was by an ars.h.le. In china

Hi the asbestos I'm on about is in an old mem isolator with ceramic rewireable fuses and is a packer in the fuse carrier . I've been told that these isolators must be removed and replaced and was after conformation thanks

Yes it can be removed, but if it has a rope seal this may well be a ACM aswel, I've never seen this removed but may well be possible. But after all this effort replacing may be easier.

There's probably no specific requirement to remove it on account of the asbestos, just as there's no specific requirement to upgrade it to the current electrical regs. But the risks associated with asbestos have to be correctly controlled and managed under the various applicable regulations, which is often easiest to achieve by replacement. Whoever is responsible for managing asbestos on the site will need to do a risk assessment to determine the best way to proceed.

I wouldn't call something with fuses an 'isolator', which is probably why E54 wasn't very convinced by your description!
