Hi guys - help needed!

I get a 12V reading on my bulb holder when the two way is switched off from source (ie where the Line starts), but 43 V when it is switched off from remote switch.

The switches are connected by 3 core cable. The lenght of the cable is about 10m, and is in a bundle of other cables routed through the ceiling.

All other lights on this circuit are OK and do not show any voltages when switched off.

Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for such a fast response. I have now disconnected the three core cable and made the switch a simple one way. This still gives the 12V reading. This is really doing my head-in!

Best wishes

is there anything else sharing the feed apart from the lights. Like extract fan of any other feed going from lighting put other than lights? Had before and someone had connected extract wrong, as above side sw/N reverse.

I think someone keeps making accounts and posting these ridiculous faults to incite everybody

Any qualified TIME SERVED electrician would sort this quite easily

Please, Please, lets not start off down that road again.

The OP never claimed to be...

A. An Electrician.
B. Doing this as a paid job.

He could quite easily be a homeowner who is strapped for cash (aren't we all) and is attempting a minor repair/alteration. This forum is open to everyone, so why not cut the guy a bit of slack.

And just as in many walks of life, the length at which you have been doing something is absolutely no guarantee that you are any good at it.

There is a guy at my local camera club who has been taking pics for 30 odd years, but in the 10 years I have been there he has never learnt from his mistakes and is still churning out the same stuff he did when he first started (Probably). As another member aptly put it, he does not have 30 years experience, he has 1 years experience X 30.

Cheers

The one and most obvious question no one has asked is “has any work been done recently?”How the hell would the lighting get connected to the central heating control? One of the most stupid statements I’ve ever heard on the board!

The bit that frightens me is that the OP could have very little or no electrical knowledge. Phrases like "bulb holder" and someone messing around with a meter on live circuits does not sound good to me.
I'm not against Joe public saving a bob or two but this stuff can kill you. Joe public and elecricity do not mix, get a spark in before it goes badly wrong.

Very wild stab in the dark, first off is it 3 core and earth or twin and earth with the cpc used as the common? If it is 3+E is the cpc actually earthed. Can be checked that it's connected to something other than line by getting a 230V reading by measuring between it and a known line source. If it's 2+E its probably picking up an induced voltage because there is no earthed conductor to partially take away the effects of the emf of surrounding cables. hope this helps, though it could be daft dog (barking up the wrong tree)

Lighting heating control interconnection I've seen it before, boilers been moved, boiler fitter needs a feed, lights have feed, now the boiler has a feed. Lights?

Do we know if any works been done? No we don't. It's just guess work with out information. My guess is Elves have moved in to his house and rewired it in the night.
