hello david, welcome along. it depends what kind of work you want to do. have you tried looking at other contractors for a bit more varied experience first its not really the best time to go solo if you can help it right now

I'll go with what patricklondon has said. But if you do wish to take the plunge, part p reg with one of the schemes will make life easier, a van and your own MF tester if you havent got one. If youre employed then you will have a good idea about what to charge in your area.

If you can wait i would hang on till the new year, its been a quiet year all round in 2009, and this is usually a very quiet time anyway. Come late winter into early spring things will start to pick up.

I had a conversation with an Estate Agent early this year, he said that the banks had changed their criteria for lending for mortgages and most were being declined due to not enough deposit, now these people have the required deposits and the house market is moving again but generally once they have moved in, the last thing they want is their house being knocked about before christmas. come the new year these people will want their homes sorting out, i am already starting to put in quotes for work in Jan and Feb next year for rewires, kitchens and extensions etc.

Good luck;)
