evening all!

i've gone and got involved in a cooker repair again!

customer called me to say rcd was tripping. i turned up, tried resetting it, but it wouldn't reset until i'd switched off mcb's, and then it would.

switched on mcb's one by one, and all power restored.

i then tried to make it trip again, and succeeded when i switched on a particular cooker ring.

so, i then tried the other rings, all ok. tried this faulty? one again, and trip!

disconnected said ring, tried controls, all ok, no problems.

i then replaced this faulty? ring, and all worked ok - for a few days!

now it's tripping out again! should i be looking into it being a fault on the controls?

or possibly a faulty new element? i am gonna ir test the old one tomorrow, which i didn't do before i replaced it!

thanks in advance!

try puttin it on an unprotected way (if there is one)...if not then temporarilly without goin through the RCD...get it warmed up....then hit it with the IR tester.....

Have seen burnt out crimps on the element before - they can loosen when you pull them off and put them back on the new element.

As an aside, did you IR test (lives to cpc) the cooker - you should really have done after any repair along with the cpc continuity test.
