I don't think it will be that much of a rush on to be honest, those people who have been looking into it seriously will have either installed or not by 12/12. and any new takers won't be too concerned about the C-rating as most won't really comprehend what it means (similar to me 6 weeks ago) - and when you explain it they still won't be too bothered, i'm sure some sales guys will make a huge deal out of it, but until the house is assessed you just don;t know.

Only orders we are looking at at the moment are new-builds who are required to install something and they don;t give a monkeys about the FIT rate. They are told to install a 1KWp system and that is what they install. Even if there is space for 4KWp.

I still think there is business to be done and the FIT rates still make it an attractive proposition, but it's like a retail special offer - when the offer finishes it always takes a while for sales to get back to the level they were before the offer started. I

Would like some clarification on rate etc.., but otherwise i'm happy to sit it out and wait for a while.

So still in limbo - possibly until 8th Feb. I can't see how you can sell on the basis that the fit might be 21p or it might not be.

I've enjoyed all the comment here.
I really need to know two things and I think everyone on this thread and beyond is interested:
(1)...Is the 21.1p rate reversible by all the legal actions going on just now?
(2)...How much will this "Green Deal" and the "C" rating affect the solar pv business...

My understanding is that the 21.1p rate is here to stay and that 86% of UK houses dont even reach the C rating which by Oct 2011 will be contingent with ANY house getting the FIT

Until DECC confirm either the results of the consultation, or pre-empt it, it is all just guesswork.

But based on the published consultation document 21p is the expected rate for retro-fit PV up to the 4kW limit for installs up to the end of March 2012. The current proposals, for installs after April 2012, are that a house would have to be at least a band C EPC within 12 months of a PV install in order to qualify for the 21p rate, otherwise it will be 9p. The 21p rate may go down from 1st April as well.

While 86% of houses are currently below EPC band C, the unknown is how many could be upgraded to meet band C and at what cost and how many homeowners would be bothered to go through the hassle.

The Green Deal (coming October 2012) is designed to allow a homeowner to 'mortgage' the capital costs of such upgrades against their future energy bills.

Has anyone asked HM Government what we are supposed to be doing whilst they work out the FIT rate. Its criminal what they are doing leaving us literally high a dry, I don't mind 21p I just want to get on with it to earn money.

What should we be doing, other that polishing our tools and ensuring all our documentation is up-to-date...

I agree with previous comments, I cant see January or february being very busy, people have other things on their mind, weather is usually bad, and anyone who knows the ins and outs and was looking at solar has probably had it installed before the deadline where possible, so there would always have been a natural lag before installs got back to a consistent level.

Back on the tools for me until things become clear, at least chopping out walls pays the bills and I have this to fall back on, even if I'd rather be project managing solar installs, its the EPC thats the decider without doubt.

I'm in training to become champion thumb twiddler of the North West. I did have aspirations for the olympics but as the fit budgets looks like it might have been added to the opening and closing ceremonies I'm probably not going to be able to earn the cash for the bus down.

Then again - plenty of time to walk and train at the same time if there's no movement on solar for the forseeable.
