Hi all. I've have just bought a 2002 jeep Cherokee as a farm vehicle. The radio doesn't work. I've no equipment to test the power to the connector but what I was planning on doing is taking a live from the cigarette lighter (I don't use it) to the live on the connector. The only problem is that there appear to be two wires into the connector...both pink labeled fused battery +. Am I ok joining these two wires into one? It's ports 1 and 12 on the middle diagram on this photo

i'd try finding the original fault first. a 12V screwdriver tester or a cheap multimeter costs under a tenner.

I'd guess the one of the lives is the main power and the other is a permanent fused live to hold the memory settings. The main power is usually from the ignition switch so it turns the radio off when you remove the keys. You probably can link them both together but either the radio will stay on when the vehicle is switched off or it will lose it's settings every time you remove the keys.

Ok, thanks. It didn't have a radio in it when I bought it...the connections are all there and I know the radio I'm trying to put in works..I'll pop it to the garage, just though I could maybe fix it on the drive

think he's got terminal 2 to switch radio on/off. the second batt+ might be for an electric aerial.

As much as I'm probably going to regret it I'm taking it to halfords in Darlington tomorrow..I bought the new radio from them so I guess they can have a look

Halfords? My goodness, things must be dire.....If i EVER got the chance to pilot an A10 tankbuster, and there was only a 3 second burst with that splendid gun,and fuel was low,i would make it my stalwart task,to find the largest, empty branch, and sort aisles 1 to 10 right out... :icon12:
