HI,

I've been doing electrical installations for over 15 yrs now. I have the following qualifications:-

2360 Part 1 & 2
AM1 (Not AM2)
2391
2400 (NVQ 3)
16th Edition (Not sure of C&G number)
Currently studying HNC in Electrical Engineering.

Can someone tell me what JIB grading I could expect?

I applied for JIB card years ago, but have never worked for a JIB company. Before I got my 2400, they gave me 'Senior Electrical Apprentice', which I found quite insulting. I cancelled the card as I have never actually been asked for it and found it quite embarrassing. I have had extensive supervisory roles in the electrical industry and consider myself to have a good knowledge of mainly commercial and industrial installations.

Everyone bangs on about 'JIB' card, but I've never really needed it; but would still like it. I don't want to request it again in case I get the same grading!

I have actually been working as management for over 7 years now too, actually running several jobs, and the value of the jobs are sometimes over £1m, surely they would deem me as a 'Senior Electrical Apprentice' now?

Can anyone out there give me any advice? Its quite a sensitive issue too, as I'm management, I wouldn't want to go to senior management for them to sign my JIB form, is there a way round this?

hello der. they wont grade u as an electrician until u do ur am2 for the sake of 400 quid i think it is, u be better doin it ul also have to provide any evidence etc of any exams u done, as for getting someone to sign it off im not sure how u could get round it, jib card not a big deal at the min but as i understand they will be soon, if u were headin abroad eg oz or canada u need it.:D

Hi, It is very handy having the JIB card I must admit,It has opened doors to employment I would not of got with out it. BUT now that you have moved on off the tools, I would suggest join the IET( IEE) as a technician member and you can progress to registration as a Electrical Tech, membership is approx £100 a year. all is expained on their web site. But ! I would not give up on the JIB you never know when you may need it................make ya case!

HTML:
2400 (NVQ 3)

The 2400 is Design and Verification (now 2391-20). It is NOT an NVQ.

NVQ Level 3 is required for JIB Grading, unless they grant "Industry Assessed" Grading (however, I'm not sure whether this is possible for qualifications achieved after the NVQ came into existence). They can also grant Provisional Grading.

Really, you would have to speak to the JIB.

Agree it is a Level 3 qualification not a NVQ 3

Recently renewed my card no problem, valid from 24.10.2010 for three years. My previous card had expired May 2008. Had to sit another ECS H&S Assessment of course, and sent in my 2382-20 which I took previously in February 2008 together with £15 renewal fee.

Sent in a new photo because the fit old fart on the previous card is now an older, fatter, unfit old fart. The only difference between the old and new card, besides the photo, is what’s written on the back. Instead of 16th Edition, it now reads 17th Edition. Completed Apprenticeship and C&G 2391 being on both current and previous cards, as is Installation Electrician/Maintenance Electrician and JIB Grade : Approved Electrician. Oh, and one other change, the National Insurance number has been replaced by a card issue number.

Previous to both cards, I had several “UK Register of Electricians” cards. Other exams sat include BS7671:2004(2381-01), 16th Edition(2380-01), 15th Edition, C&G ‘A’ and ‘B’ Certificates Electrical Installation together with a JIB Apprenticeship Completion Diploma. Got my first JIB card in 1976, Grade : Electrician.

Nowhere on any JIB card has it ever said “Industry Assessed” or “Provisional Grade,”
Never done and haven’t got, AM1/AM2, NVQ3, so what’s the problem ?

I work alongside a poisonous dwarf who has industry assesed acreditation....He never did an apprenticeship, AM2, 17th Edition or NVQ 3.....

HE HAS A JIB INSTALLATION ELECTRICIAN GOLD CARD

Kinda makes me sick when i have more quals than him and her gets more pay....

i got mine with a nvq 3 which took 3 months as they did not recognise my city and guilds 2360 part 1 and 2 which took 4 years i think the goverment have made it so they can fast track wollys into the industry thats why all the rates are ruvbbish at the mo weve all seen the ads become a electrician/plumber in 3 months jib dont do any1 any favors but then thats unions all over as the dockers minors builders have found out over the years

from Jan you will need the am2 and the nvq 3. It is called the practising operatives scheme. You need to be actively doing electrical work to complete the nvq. It is not a representation of your tech ability and skill, only another way to measure it. This is the problem with the grading in the UK, it lacks coherence. It would be nice if the JIB card had the same standing as a gas safe card but it does not. Dont let the lack of this card dent your confidence.
