I phoned the JIB today to enquire about having my card stamped on the back for when I enroll to do my 17th edition and pass it.
They asked what I had acheived already and I told them C&G 2330 Level 2 & 3. The gent on the phone then told me that I didnt have to do the 17th as it was covered in these qualifications.

Is this right? Surely not?!!

I recon he's right 17th ed has been going a couple of years now and you should have been working to the latest edition.....its aka the big red book surely you must remember it?
Your best bet now is to enrole in your 2391.

Im on the 2391 as we speak but have also been out of work since Xmas so chances of passing for me are slimmer then Posh Spice!!!

Ive also again just spoken to a woman at the JIB to get a 2nd opinion. She definatly confined that if you have the 2330 Level 2 and 3 then the 17th edition is incorporated into this and you do not have to take the 17th Ed once youve passed both Level 2 & 3.

Ive no idea why colleges are telling students to book on the course. Mine have and Ive just left a message to cancel and obtain a refund.

I asked what would happen if I was refused entry on site for not being able to produce a 17th edition certificate and she said to get the site manager to ring the JIB and they will confirm it.

Best now go and update my CV!!!!

Hope this helps everyone else....At least the JIB have got something right!!! I hope!!!

I've just spoke to JIB to check this and they say it is NOT included in the 2330 lv3, she even double checked it with someone else in the office, and that you still have to sit the 17th ed course seperately.

Theyve told me on 2 occasions now that if you have both the 2330 level 2 & 3 then it covers the 17th as its to the new standards. Although you will never recieve aknowledgement of this as its not actually part of the course. And she had to double check that with someone in the office.

I only checked as Ive told my mate Im booked onto the 17th and he said to ring the JIB and ask as thats the information they gave him. If you have 2330 2 & 3, exempt from taking 17th.

I think the JIB should make a statement about this and confirm for defiantely. If their office staff are giving out mixed information what chance do the colleges or we, the sparkies have???
If its true, how much money are colleges raking in by telling students they still need to take the 17th?!?!?

I agree with what your saying, this really needs clarifying as it could potentially save the trainee electrician a lot of money.

Can anyone else shed any light on this as as you can see from the above posts, myself and Mrskipsey have been told totally opposite by the JIB. (I phoned 30 mins ago).

When I phoned them last week I asked them if it were a requirement to have the 17th to re apply for a JIB card, the girl said no it was not mandatory to have it, to be graded an Electrician with the JIB yet. So when I get the 17th I will just send the card back with a fiver and get it added on.

But if what Ive been told is correct, if you have 2330 2 & 3 you should not have to do the 17thas the 2330's are set to the IEE 17th standard. Why pay for something that you dont need?

Put it towards the NVQ3 or a nice BIG DRILL!! :D

It’s sad that you had to say no more money to them for them to pull their fingers out.
