Hi guys

I have 2330 level 1,2,3 NVQ 3 and 17th.

I now work as a trainee electrical engineer in a factory.

Is it worth me getting my jib card or shall I wait and pay the fees etc when I'm back working on sites?

My company doesn't pay jib rates anyway so I'm a little confused.

Regards

If you are permanently employed where you are and have need to go on other sites, then practically there is little point in possessing a ECS card.
From the point of view of demonstrating your capability it may be useful to have the card as a quick and easy proof.
If you were thinking of moving on elsewhere then the card would almost be a necessity.

In that last case, since it takes time to get the card, it would be best to apply early. However there is little point in spending your money on something that is not required, except for the personal satisfaction of having it!
However the overall investment is fairly small in the short term.

You should be able to get a craft electrician gold card with those qualifications.

I would get it, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

I've had mine for about 11 years and never needed it once but still like to keep it up to date

It's not that expensive really either

It's the only card that counts for anything in my book, so get it ASAP it's like getting your passport once you've got it just keep renewing it you never know when you might need it IMO it's worth every penny, hopefully in the future all the scams will be history and the JIB card will still be alive and kicking.

almost certainly get it!

im in a similar situation, I'm a spark, but I'm being trained as an engineer too, but I'll always keep my craft card upto date. It's my bread and butter, and I'll always be able to fall back on it if the engineering route falls through.
