Joining aluminium to copper

Hello,

Im new to this forum and since joining and browsing I'm impressed with the variety of knowledge. I thought I would pick your brains.

I have a board change to do shortly and the original wiring is aluminium and some of the cables will need extending. So my question, what products are out there to joint aluminium to copper rangeing from 1mm to 4mm?

are you sure that they are aluminium and not tinned copper? ifv it's only a few to extend in the CU, then in line push fits would be my preference

Wagos (in conjunction with alu-plus paste)would be your weapon of choice for small wiring sizes. You get special copper to aluminium crimped ferrules but I've never seen them for smaller than 10mm² wires.

As Tel points out make sure it's definitely aluminium first and not a tinned or zinc coated copper which is far more common.

Also remember that your minimum conductor size for a compliant circuit in aluminium conductors is 16mm² csa so you will have problems with many connections as the terminals will be too small.
