Joining armoured cable underground

Is there a device which can be used underground for joining either 16 mm2 or 25 mm2 SWA armoured cable (2 or 3 core), or do I have to bring the cables up to an above ground JB?

I’ve always used Scotchcast for UG cable joints. Just remember to wear disposable gloves when handling the resin.

I keep a box of latex gloves in the van for jointing (honestly) as the plastic ones split when I'm kneading the resin. I find that after mixing the resin, which is easier to do when it's warmish, a small hole in the bag is easier to flow control than a large one. Innuendo anyone?

Many thanks for all your answers. The resin kits I've heard about make a lot more sense now but I'm surprised the kits rely on crimping - I was expecting a large screw terminal block inside a completely watertight plastic box.

How do I crimp 25 mm cable securely - do I need a special tool? And any other tips eg for securely fitting the earth rings and strap?

yeah you will need a pair of crimpers that does 25mm. are you really sure you are confident doing this joint.

as hawks has said but make sure they are ratchet crimpers so to get a goot solid joint
