when joining T&E cable with butt connectors do you have to use heat shrink on the joints or not?

spot on answer.The heat shrink is required in order to return the cable to it's original condition ie double insulated.
PVC tape is not adequate as this breaks down over time.
If you enclose the connectors in a pattress with cover or similar enclosure then you will not need the heatshrink.
go and wash your mouth out with soap. pre-historic huge brown things with screw terminals.what about a proper junction box ?
