Well it certainely isn't a fail, but there is nothing wrong with a recommendation of improvement and a lot of industrial sparks especially wouldn't like joints in trunkings, that said, again there is no reg saying it is dangerous, but the regs are the minimum standard IMO, they have sofened down a fair bit also since harmonisation.

can't the OP fix a niceic sticker on the trunking. "joined here from sensible colours to stupid ones , danger, gerfinger poking verboten " ?

It would be nice if the OP came back to clarify things...

I threw my pie for you...!! :)

As far as I know it is only a recommendation from the inspector I won't get to see the report for a few weeks as it goes to the local council first then the school gets a copy then hopefully I'll get to see it but I'm going back in a few weeks to have a look myself and rectify it.

what do you guys think of this joint? its to parallel up two 5ah batteries so the radio will last longer lol

twist, solder then heat shrink. no cuts in one of the cables just insulation removed.

its only temporary till i get some joints or double crimps etc. (probably make/get an iso plug made with the right ends)

15 years ago in my technical school we been taught soldering cables, then on the apprenticeship been working with older electrician, he had a big big soldering iron for soldering even big cables if needed. if properly done that joint will have same resistance as the cables joined, or even lower due to more conductor area.
They dont like mechanical stress or vibration, but thats not a problem for fixed wiring situations.
Now i have a portable gas iroda, does job very well.

When I was an apprentice we used massive soldering irons on a gas burner to solder cable underground joints. Nowadays I see more and more specifications on jobs that forbid the use of solder jointing. Not sure why.

I watched this program where NASA where extending a cable and joining it. Don't remember what size it was bit it was big. Used a huge hydraulic crimper to do it.
