The OP said that it wasn't possible to replace the cable point to point in post 20.
This thread is about a system inspected who said 'was surprised that the joints were in metal conduit and not pulled out and joined in a plastic box'. There is no need to put the joints in any box as the trunking is fine.

No it isn't it is rough, we will have to disagree, you carry on cocker, just don't try and pull the wool over everones eyes here, there are still some tradesmen left here.

I didn't say its not rough.
I presume the OP has looked at all the options. If he can't wire point to point or pull a new through then how else is he going to extend the cable? What would you do MDJ?

from the op

I crimped all my joins and tidyly put them back in to the metal conduit, the conduit is earthed. My boss just spoke to me and said they had the system inspected and it was said that the inspector was surprised that the joints were in metal conduit

Now please tell me there is no other way, if there is conduit then there must be a conduit box where an adaptable box can be fitted to and a proper system installed.

Good point mate. Maybe I should engage both my brain cells next time before putting up a silly post. One of those days.....

Hi OP. I may have misread you original post.
Is the inspector happy with the crimp joint but complained that the crimp joints are not in a box?

This is why I asked if he meant conduit or trunking.
It seems it's 3x3 metal trunking.
Nothing inherently wrong with joining in trunking, without any of us seeing it who can say whether its rough or not.

'Surprised how a job was carried out' must be a new tick box on EICRs since amnd 3 that I have not come across.

Well when doing an EICR there is a page where you can write down your thoughts about the installation Andy mate, I expect the Electrician who did the report was a little suprised at what he saw and made a recommendation for an adaptable box to be used, he may have got it wrong and he may be a buffoon with no idea, a picture of the joint may have helped the thread mind you lol.

Fair point, it's not something I would put. (assuming it complied and was safe)

Well it certainely isn't a fail, but there is nothing wrong with a recommendation of improvement and a lot of industrial sparks especially wouldn't like joints in trunkings, that said, again there is no reg saying it is dangerous, but the regs are the minimum standard IMO, they have sofened down a fair bit also since harmonisation.

can't the OP fix a niceic sticker on the trunking. "joined here from sensible colours to stupid ones , danger, gerfinger poking verboten " ?

It would be nice if the OP came back to clarify things...

I threw my pie for you...!! :)

As far as I know it is only a recommendation from the inspector I won't get to see the report for a few weeks as it goes to the local council first then the school gets a copy then hopefully I'll get to see it but I'm going back in a few weeks to have a look myself and rectify it.
