I have come to a site to assist the install if fire protection equipment. Another contractor is doing the main electrical wiring. Working with one of them I observed him joining a 2.5 T&E ring cable under floorboards. I expected him to use a new style maintenance free joint box (e.g. the Ashley one) but instead he used crimps, then taped the crimp joints, then heat shrink sealed that. To prevent tension on the joint he then formed a U around the joint and used cable clips to hold the cables together. Finally he affixed the cable before and after the joint to a joist using a flat cable clip.
No joint box of any form.
Would this be okay by most peoples view of the regs.? From a time point of view he took no longer then a joint box would take (with fiddly strain clamps) so it looks cost effective. But would it be approved?
