I intend on putting several new sockets in various upstairs rooms. I will make them all part of the ring. I hope to successfully re wire where is needed. Its likely cables run under floor boards which have been tiled. So JBs will be needed. Do i have use maintenance free jbs such as ashley push in connectors. i will try keep the use of JBs to a minimum.

Or if you are only extending cables, crimp connections and cover with heatshrink(placed over cable before making the crimp joint). All terminations made with screw terminals must be accessible, so only use maintenance free under floors etc. Check this out.View attachment 2568

Mechanical joints(ie crimps) are perfectly acceptable and are a permanent repair, therefore becoming an integral part of the cable. Obviously only use a proper crimping tool for the job, not pliers etc. Or do you mean maintenance free JBs davelerave?

Crimps and heat shrink were suggested to me, a few years ago now, by the NICEIC helpline. So I believe that done correctly they are perfectly acceptable as a permanent repair that does not need to be accessible. Also the latest edition of NIC connections magazine shows crimp connectors as the method of connection but stresses the need to enclose the connections correctly. IMO heat shrink forms the 2nd insulation or sheath thus, when crimped, it returns t+e cable to it's original condition. However davelerave if you don't feel happy using this method don't use it, as with a number of things it appears to be a matter of opinion. Hope this helps though.

Cheers
Steve.
