Hi all!!

Don't take the title the wrong way any PAT Testers out there. Your not all like this!!
Just been doing some work today down the theatre on site and the PAT Testers have been round checking the lights. They were all done and gone when i got there so couldn't help being a nosey so so and check out what they had done. All the lights were in very neat order on the stage - section for passed items, section for failed items. (Failed items will only end up back with me to have a look to see if can repair!!)
Everything seemed fine except light at front of "PASSED" pile!! It not just small amount or nick that perhaps "missed by mistake" as you can see by my picture i've uploaded --- its a good 3inches of exposed flex out of the plug!!

How can you get away with that??!!

Just thought i'd share my rant with everyone here

Are you suggesting that this was merely a 'stickering up' exercise and that the recommendations in the Code of Practice were not adhered to?

How unusual.....

Total scam in the wrong hands.

If this was a "stickering" up exercise I just don't understand how you can't have seen the exposed flex!! I do believe there should be alot of changes to how things are tested so that we can try to avoid these things happening in future but unfortunately I don't see how they can change it and make people comply because if they don't follow code of practice now they certainly won't in future which makes it harder for the genuine people out there that make less money but do the job right and can then sleep happily at night.

Its typical !! i used to work for a large card retail outlet i was a field maintainance manager (no i didnt cut the grass and used a posh title) i was in a shop when a guy came in "scuse me mate wanna PAT test your stuff" , intreeged by what he was going to do he promptly picked up an extension lead plugged in toto his tester and then labled everything , didnt press a button and off he went take note , name let him carry on , so thought i may as well go to the next shop and see what going on there when i was asked by a staff member about the damaged cable on the vac , cheking it out it was stripped down to the bear conductor for about 18" passed label that date asking where he was he had left ringing the company who was pat testing he was sent back to the shop ,he came in swearing and blinding asking him about the vac cable his answer was seen worse and who the f~~~k are you to tell me how to do me job ,as you can imagin red rag to a bull , he went pale when i whipped out my gold JIB card with all my quallies on it ,by the end of the day he had retested every item in the shop checked every plug top replaced the vac cable and me watching over him with the shop managers also watching , he never said a word , never saw him again !! my nephew and trainee spark who works with me is in the Air cadets brought aPat testing sheet over for me to look at well there was an A4 sheet for every item , he couldnt understand why a IEC lead would fail with a reading of 0.10 , with a comment plug cut off , nice nothing labled , all sheets had visual test skipped , come on the most essential test !!! , so many mistakes on the sheets , but have just found out they have lost the contract ,

just un real make a quick buck and away ,
