I have just been out on a callout for Mobile Solutions. A Vehicle Strobe Light not working.

Got there and checked the correct voltage for the strobe - 12v DC.
Put my meter onto the output and got 350v

The bulb which was plugged in was vaporized

The scary thing apart from where is the voltage coming from is the fact this vehicle is a security vehicle on a Gas Terminal Site

Strobe lights can use zenon bulbs , is there a mini ballast anywhere ?

Edit :
thinking about it , there must be a ballast ignitor somewhere as a vehicals power source is only 12-24v to begin with lol.

The bulbs where Xenon bulbs, but no sign of a basalt or anything.
The bulb element was vaporized - nothing left of it at all.

They said as soon as they put a new bulb in and turn it on it goes pop instantly - does not sound right!

Also Xenon works on 240v not 350v - dont get it!

I have refereed it back to mobile solutions now so see what they say on Monday

Sounds like a faulty ballast.....

you just needs to find it

:)

My thoughts exactly - took the beacon apart and could not see it at all - I will tell Mobile Solutions thats what I think it is and get them to send a new one down to me as well as a few bulbs :)

The other side is working fine @ 240v

They said it was cheaper paying me my callout fee than sending their guy down - 1st bi of work in 2 months - could not moan!

Ya 240v - thats what Xenon works on - 240v 20W (not sure if AC or DC)

I have found the bulb (ÂŁ35 each) - 240v - 20W

Ya you saw it - 1st job in 2 months - everyone around here is the same - all dead.
I was talking to a local spark to me - he not had any work in 3 months - Im just living off my partners benefit now!

One Agency - I told them to find someone else because they would not pay me for 2 months - I was paying out and not getting the money - could not keep doing that!

The Other is 3 months behind on invoices (ÂŁ250+ outstanding) so I put their account on hold - I will be telling them to go elsewhere soon.
