Welcome Sam.

I nearly picked a fast track level 2 and 3 at a training centre I believe it was, but was worried as I looked at the part time courses at colleges which say there’s 150hrs for the level 2 practical workshop and 150hrs practical workshop hrs for the level 3 that’s basically 8 weeks of practical for the full course and couldn’t see how it was possible to fit all this in including the theory On a fast track course when the fast track was the same amount of hrs as the just the practical at college.

This worried me as I thought it’s about them getting you through the units as quick as possible & get you passed but for me I wanted to take in as much as possible.

I’m sure they’ll be absolutely fine and you’ll do well.

Good luck mate.

Hi mate I did think the same thing spoke to the trainer and he said it's pritty much a guaranteed pass if people fail you join onto the next course and resit the exams free of charge he's been running the courses for 20 years he had really good reviews and this class size is a maximum of 6 adult learners only must be over 19 to join and there are only 5 people on our course it's almost like 1 to 1 training it's only a very small classroom so he can watch everyone all the time no one gets neglected I must admit I have only just started but so far I'm very impressed

Hi gazdkw82
I'm doing level 2 and 3 diploma then inspection and testing then NVQ then AM2 that's the plan of action the hardest thing for me will be the NVQ as I work full time so I need to rely on getting weekend work with people or quit my job find a "trainee" job and take a big pay cut and just drive lorries on the weekend to make money up while I complete the NVQ not 100% how it will pan out yet

It’s more about finding people who’re working where you’ll be able to complete your NVQ accesment modules this is normally commercially, industrial not domestic dwellings. That’s the biggest hurdle you’ll encounter mate.

Ok thanks massive what sort of things are in the portfolio ? That probably will be a problem as most the people I know on weekends work on domestic things like extensions and re-wires

Take a look at the link about NVQ and flick though the modules at the top of the page, but also remember you don’t need an NVQ to join a competent person scheme like NAPIT or NICEIC and after you’ve done your level 2 and 3 and get a bit of experience with your friends at weekends nothing is stopping you joining one of these where you’ll be able to certify your own work etc.

Thanks massive I'll have a look through now.. I will do that get registered through a competent person scheme to help get the ball rolling.. you do need to do the NVQ to do the AM2 and jib card don't you.. I think I'm worrying about something that is 9/10 months away yet just need to take one step at a time and figure out what to do when I get there

No you don’t need to do the NVQ and AM2 to get a JIB card unless you’re after the JIB Gold Card of which yes you’ll have to do them both but you can get a trainee JIB card or Labourers JIB card which I believe now you have to be employed for them to issue you one.

Ok thanks can I ask how your going about all this ? What's your plan ? And are you working while doing your qualifications?
