Hi i was woundering if any one could help me i use to do aeronortical engineering then i went into the army and re trained to an electrician/technician as well as a few other trades i am now a civilian and have decided to set up on my owne i have most the relovant qualifications just no civilian experiance and bad spelling lol but do i need to be register with a gov body or can i just go at it alone to start with ?
the minor works cert do i have to hand this to any one else other than the person i am doing the work for i.e. a gov body ? i would appreciate any help / guidance you could give me thank you

get in touch with elecsa or napit or niceic or eca, to do domestic works you need to be registered with one of these. if you want to do commercial industrial then 17th edition is a good start then c&g 2391

cool thank you but i have my 17th edition full scope part p and my 2391 but the gov bodies you have listed is it optional to join them or is it a must ?
If so what is the best one other than niceic ?
and what do i do with the minor works cert ?
Kind regards
Drew

Domestically, have a read of Part P of the building regs. This will tell you your requirements regarding Notifiable/Non-Notifiable Work.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to do your 17th edition regs also, that is if you haven't already.
You don't have to register with a body to work as long as you are competent, but Notifiable work has to be notified to LABC BEFORE you start the work, and no doubt pay a fee.Registration with a body simplifies the process in as much as, you can get straight on with the job and not pay fees to LABC.

Hope this helps
Vinnie

Yes but not all work in a DOMESTIC situation is notifiable is it:eek:

He can replace accesories

Install main or supplementary bonding

He can even chang a damaged cable (1 circuit only)

Providing the work isnt in a special location/increased area of risk (kitchen or bathroom) he can add as many sockets or spurs to existing circuits as he wants (within reg limits)

So you dont have to be PART P to carry out all work in DOMESTICS though some would have you think its that way

of course paul is technically correct but how good is it going to look explaining to any potential custumers that you are very limited in what work you can and cant do and if a job does need to be in a special location etc they will have to pay labc to send another sparks to do their bit. how many times is drew really going to want to go through that! be technically correct but also be a little realistic. i blame the scope myself (heard this before?)

I agree with you it is very limiting ,but there are a lot of myths surrounding PART P .

I myself had to find out what was notifiable and what wasnt ,when i went self employed four years ago i wasnt a member of a scheme so i had to tread a very fine line with what i could and couldnt do,been with the NIC 3 years now :)
