Ive had no problems with them buddy ! Used/own the KT61 & KT35 that ive had for cpl of yrs with no problems ! also have an ALTO AL4588 loop tester that i like but then i also like the Meggers ! having said that as long as it gives an accurate reading it dont matter to me what make it is really.

I'm a Martindale man though I do have Megger. I used a mates Kewtech and found them ok. Easy to use and very user friendly. My mate as had his for 4 years now, the old 16th Edition kit, and tells me he will get a 17th multi function all in one when one of the units pack up on him ................and they haven't as of yet.

Hi, I have a Kewtech kt65, I bought it because whilst at college we were using Kewtech equipment and had got used to it, also got a cracking deal from the local wholesaler the college used :D
Like others have said it is very user friendly and easy to adjust to what test you want to do, also when testing rdcs there is a nice auto function you just have to set the rating and will go through x1/2 x1 and x5 on 180 degrees 0 degrees and records the longest tripping time, you just stand at the rcd and reset it. I can't comment on how well it last as have only had mine a year or so but still works fine. Also comes with fused leads which is good(Well mine did, assuming they all do.)
My tutor gave me the best advice which was to try as many as you can before buying and see what you like, like I said I was familiar with Kewtech so decided to go with them! Hope this helps a bit mate.

i have a Megger which im now selling as was after a fluke, however i have just ben using a friends Kewtech KT65 for a couple of days whilst carrying out a load of PIR work and i must say i was very impressed. Great user interface clear easy to use controls etc.

Its much of a muchness really as they all do the same job. I went with Megger as i wanted the bluetooth setup but i have NEVER used it and cant see myself doing so tbh.. only reason i was now changing to a fluke was the phase rotation and earth spike testing, however saying that.. i was impressed with the Kewtech.. watch this space! ;)

Kewtech have a great pedigree, the company that makes all the equipment are called kyoritsu and they made 80% of every thing Robin Electronics used to sell before they were bought by Fluke so should be no problem with quality.

.

Hi all,

I may be the only one but am not getting on with it.

The saving to memory process is slow and has to be selected for each reading in turn, why cant you say record each reading from now... and then stop recording at the end of the tests with a simple `delete last entry` button if the last reading was not as expected and needs to be rechecked.

I run all my certs and admin from a pc and bought the Kt65 as it had the kew report software which I assumed was similar to the onsite software but it's not, it cant generate certificates and cant talk to the other certificate programmes that are available, so it's back to entering info by hand. It is also very basic in operation and set up can take the best part of a day if you're using a new 64 bit machine with Win 7 as it's not compatible with either (see my previous rant / post on another thread in this forum for more details)

Yes it is rugged and consistant with the readings it gives but not as intuitive as the other testers on the market, each test has it's own selection so it's easy to use but for example it doesn't dislay the PFC or PSC on the same screen as the loop test - why? its the same check it just calculates the current from the resistance reading and voltage.

Also the pfc and psc checks need to be selected on the screen (as well as turning the dial to psc / pfc) or you get an error message, other testers dont need this selection they autoselect psc if the earth probe is connected to the N.

The insulation test sometimes takes ages (30secs+) to ramp up to display >1999, other times it displays immediately.

The unit reverts to ATT (RCD non trip setting) after each check which is a pain when testing properties without an RCD as it's much slower with ATT turned on.

It does have the earth testing capability which few other multi-functions have (if any) and the now common RCD Ramp test is included which is great for fault finding.

IMHO Kewtech and robin have always produced simple, reliable no nonsence testers. Unfortunately they rushed out the KT65 to keep a foothold near the top end of the market & have jumped in feet first to the PC compatible realm without the necessary programming expertise required.

If you don't do your certs on the PC and want a non complicated one test for one button `all in one` then this may be a good buy but if you want to automate things then you will get a big headache so look elsewhere.
