Hi,

I'm redoing my kitchen(DIY) and have the following questions about connecting equipment in a kitchen:

Would it be notifiable to change a cooker connection unit to a FCU with a 3amp fuse? I want to connect a standalone gas cooker (only has a fan requiring power) and don't want to have to install a new 13amp socket.

Also I've read its non notifiable to replace a damaged socket/switch etc in the kitchen, and also non notifiable to connect equipment to an adjacent connection point. Is it non notifiable to replace a 13amp socket with a FCU?

Many thanks,

Chris

strictly speaking, it's an exact like for like that don't need notifying, but as long as you are not altering the circuit, and are competent to do it, personally, i'd not bother notifying. as for the cooker point being replaced with a 3A FCU, you could reduce the rating of the MCB. might it not be advantageous to fit a double socket outlet in place of the cooker switch?

Hi,

Thanks for your fast replies. The cooker switch also has a socket which will be useful for a kettle or toaster ( I don't want to run the cable from the cooker over the worktops) so the old cooker point is useful. Thanks for the suggestion of changing the rating of the MCB, however the extra socket on the switch makes this tricky.

Thanks again for your help.

Chris
