I have a dishwasher with a short lead, cant take off the plug as it nulls the warrenty, it is situated next to a 600mm cupboard which the sink sits on top of, washing machine next to that (which is approximately as far as the plug reaches!)
then a 300mm cupboard that has a gap at the back but seems a bad idea to put it there as it is bulging with dirty clothes (washing cupboard) then there is a cupboard where the last dishwasher was plugged in via a connector block and extra length of lead, the ring is not proctected by an ~RCD and is an old board with re-wireable fuses.

This is the only way for the plug to go as there is granite worktopsall the way and a cupboard the other way which cant be cut - decorative reasons!!

Any ideas on what to do? other than renewing the flex completely?

This is a complete myth, cutting off the moulded plug top does NOT null the appliance warranty!! Replacing the complete length of cable for a longer one may do, as you have now interfered with the internal wiring.

Personally having said that, i would still replace the cable like for like, of a suitable length for my needs. I'd fight like hell if they tried to null the warranty on any component, that was unrelated to any default found at a later date...

You don't say how much your customer would spend but how about replacing the existing socket with an RCD socket, then plugging in a short extension lead, into which you can plug in the washing machine?
