went out to a non working oven ( electric) and no ignition for gas hob. after removing kickboards and emptying cupboard found single socket, right low down. fuse in moulded plug disintegrated, fuse carrier black as a crow. followed cable from plug to oven, hob ignition spliced into oven cable with a choc block wrapped in a latex glove and "double insulated" with a carrier bag. cable tied on. sorted that, the tenant says oven hood not working. flex from hood twisted onto T/E from FCU. even the ferrules left on the flex. all wrapped in sellotape.

honestly, I'd not trust a kitchen fitter to fit a plug on a sink.

They normally use tape so a latex glove and accompanying cable tie is a rolls Royce job in the land of the kitchen fitter

A kitchen I did the wiring for, the customer called after the kitchen fitted had finished, saying the hob and the extractor are not working. Turned out the fitted just placed the hob in the recess, with no cable connected to it, and the extractor wire dangling in the chimney, because it was not his job to connect them. But he neglected to mention this to the customer!

This is fairly typical these days , I have come across quite a few jobs with unconnected items or wires left dangling behind cupboards for under unit lights etc

I have even come across several unscrupulous builders who have mounted ‘mains’ smoke alarms but they aren’t actually connected to anything

what was intriguing is that the oven factory fitted flex is only 0.75mm. no signs of damage, so i can only conclude that the destroyed plug fuse and th one end of it's holder was down to age and contact resistance.
