I've heard NICEIC advise a cooker switch to be located 1000mm from cooker but the local authorities contractor located my relatives 150mm from cooker??

oh, and left the lights tripping

What you make of that?

Think that should be a letter of complaint about the lights cant do much about the cooker NICEIC can recommend what they like but they didnt write the building regs etc.

I'm fairly sure that there are no regulations as to the where you locate your relatives in relation to a cooker.

Although common sense would suggest that an elderly aunt should be kept 1000mm away from a hot hob.

Look at the electricians guide to the building regs Fig 5.2 cooker switch 300mm from the edge of the cooker also sockets can be 300 mm from the edge of sinks and drainers

No mention in the regs. Most councils and housing authorities say >150mm some just say so long as its not directly above. I generally stick to about 200mm, gives a bit lee way then for when the kitchen fitter cant use a tape measure.

There is no measurement in BS 7671, just as there is no depth given for burying cables in a trench. It's only the guidance notes to the regs that give any measurements and they are recommendations. The 300mm comes from Guidance notes 1 I believe.
