Before I start doing some calculations for future expected loads from the combined loads of 1xHouse + 1x Holiday Flat/Garage + Workshop.

At the Moment we have a 100A cut out fuse and 80A KWH meter (Domestic supply).

1. What I wanted to know what is the next size of meter available ? 100A maybe ?.
2. How much overload will the meter stand ?.

We have had a letter from E on to say that our meter is due to be changed, so I want to try to get them to upgrade it to a larger one, being they are coming anyway.

You may actually find that just because you've got an incoming head with a 100A sticker on it, doesn't mean there's a 100A fuse inside!! 80A or even 60A if small place are commonly found. Ultimately, it's their equipment not yours. If you've told them a loading figure (and remember to use diversity or the 40% rule) then it's up to them. Be prepared for a bill if they upgrade, though.

Hi

If your supply is 230v single phase then your supplier will fit a meter rated up to 100A, but the main fuse in the cutout will be rated at 60A or 80A depending, with a maximum supply demand of 20kva.
If you want your supply up rating then you could have another single phase cutout and meter fitted or have your supply upgraded to a 3 phase supply, meter rated at 100A per phase but the cutout fuses will be 60A or 80A per phase depending, with a maximum supply demand of 60kva.

 which ever way if will be expensive

Thanks 'Rockingit' & 'Meterman'
I have just had a look at the size of cut out fuse (we had permission to cut off the seal (never been replaced !) and take out the cut out fuse during the miners strike and power cuts a long time ago when we had a generator hooked up to feed our house ).
It is a 100A fuse link.
Being they want to change our meter because of it's age, I'm going to try and get them to upgrade the meter for free.

Well it's about four weeks since my post above and I now have a 100Amp meter and I got him to fit some 'Henley blocks' so I can add to, in the future, all fitted free of charge.
It took some organising with our suppler 'eON' and it's a good idea I had the sense to use there 'free phone' (0800 ) number to get on to there phone system as it must have taken four calls of about 1 hour + to get this sorted as they just did not have any idea even about what meters they fit! .
I must have been past to about each department they have, yes they are Just call centers but you would expect some 'Technical now how' with some of the staff .

the only guys DNOs have with tech. knowledge are out in the field, doing proper work, not sitting on their arses all day at a desk.
