Jabbajaws

My friend contacted me today with a fault find job to rectify.

He has been called to install some outside lights to a bungalow, which has an adjoining garage, of which there is one light fitting and one double socket.

When he came to perform the following voltage readings from the pendant:

L-E = 230 V

L-N = 50 V

I dont have any more information at present but wondered if anyone knew of a possible cause for this 50 V reading between L-N...

Also does anyone know how l can keep track of the threads that l write? I have posted several of them and keep losing them and probably appear quit ignorant, especially when others are replying to me..

Thanx, Jabbajaws... ;)

I would say it may be a loose neutral. Check all terminations in the circuit.

Havent had chance to establish N - E voltage Wayne, but will do so tomorrow when l have a look. Only got my friend's description till tomorrow so not much info to go on at mo.

Thanks for the info pevvers, on the threads. That will save me heaps of time.

Thanks for the info on the neutral. Ive a good idea where to start. Thanks ppl...

Most likely a loose neutral connection. I had one myself the other day. Was reading 240V L - CPC, and 105V L - N.

Then it went down to 40V after a little poking, and then it went completely. Gotta go re-supply it tomorrow, no day off for me :(
