Hi

I've been looking into starting working for myself doing domestic installation work, i'm currrenty working for a building maintenance firm doing commercial work, i was recently asked if i would like to wire an extention to a freinds parents house, as i am not part of an approved contractor scheme yet (looking at nic dis) i told the house owner to check with his labc that if i did the work and it was inspected at the correct stages, and i tested the installation and provided the test results, that the labc could then sign of the work,

the reply the owner got was that the work had to be signed of by a "qualified electrician", i've yet to confirm what he ment, but it was my understanding that as long as the conditions above were and part p were conformed to then the labc could sign off the work, not sure of this is just a breakdown in communications or if the labc is trying to make his life easier,

A friend asked me to wire an extension a while ago even though I am not a member of a scheme.
The work only involved extending the ring and light circuit so wasnt notifyable anyway.

I issued 2 minor works certificates and the LABC signed the extension off no problems.

grey area, it varies from area to area but you should be able to pay fees to labc who will inspect on first fix then send round (usually a sub contractor) to test and sign off, not sure if you are qualified but if you are you can sometimes take in a copy of your quals and they will allow you to sign it off but you still pay there fees.

As you are going down the partp route why not arrange for this to be a inspection job with Nic, then you can sign it off ?

I just wired my own extension filled in EIC, smokes cert etc and LABC didnt bother to look at them he didnt even want a copy saying he would only have to put it on file:confused:. I have mates who pay to be in schemes and they were not best pleased with what i was told. What happens to all those certs that they send in?

I've jsut been reading through the part p document and found the following paragraph

"Those qualified to complete BS 7671 installation certifficates who carry out non notiifiable work
should issue the appropriate electrical instalation certificates for all but the simplest of like for like
replacements, DIYers may wish to employ a qualified third party to carry out inspection and testing of non notifiable work to make sure it is safe, the qualified person need not necessarily be registered with a part p competant persons scheme but, as requierd by BS7671 must be qualified in respect of the inspection and testing of an installation"

my question is, i have the 2391 inspection and test qualification, can i issue a cert for non notifiable work or do i need to sit the 2392? or can i have 2391 and 17th edition?
