We often have engraved labels made up for control panels. The labeling is the engraved black lettering on white strip type. In the old days these label strips were riveted on the panels but nowadays it comes with 3M double sided adhesive tape which in all fairness usually holds fine. We're at the stage where it's a headache to constantly outsource and order these labels, there's often a few days lead time as they're all custom made and they're also not cheap.

Does anyone have machinery to make/engrave their own labels and how good is it? What kind of costs are involved for the raw materials and how easy is it to bulk buy the raw strips etc? What kind of ongoing costs are involved in running a machine like this?

I've combed through all my usual suppliers and none of them have any such equipment or even sundries related to this so I'm guessing it's a fairly involved or expensive set-up.

Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully received.

The material you need is Traffolyte. This is the machine I used to use many years ago. http://www.mastergrave.co.uk/catalogue/pdf_download.php?pdf_ID=22 £1400. If you want a posh one then £6K+
Ours must have paid for it’s self many times over.

Ooopps, just noticed, letter sets must be ordered separately, about £200.

The thing we found was it saved on lead-time. If you need it, just go and do it yourself. Their a bit fiddly to set up.
