GAS

ive had a few customers in the last few months asking why lamps keep blowing in the same lamp holder sometimes lamps will last a week sometimes will blow in a day is this just poor lamps or could there be a problem with the wires

hi Gas,

normally its the same old story of low-quality bulbs. some are types of bulb are also worse than others such as reflector bulbs and GU10's always buy good makes like phillips etc. there is a HUGE difference between tesco / homebase bulbs and more expensive branded bulbs. i come up against this all day every day.. i see which lamps, transformers and fittings really last the test of time and it varies even between 'good' manufacturers.

excessive vibration can de-rate lamp life also. are they used in a house? or in a commercial environment? if the latter then they will be 'on' for far longer than you may realise hence the appararatnly short life span.

there is nothing in the wiring than affect lamp life.

install a dimmer switch to increase lamp life

obvious answer....try halogen version of lamp / fluroescent version to boost life

Excessive temperature reduces lamp life. So if it seems that the same one goes every time I would suspect poor contact with the bulb holder.
This will cause heat as it offers resistance to the flow of currrent, and this heat will be absorbed by the bulb which is also generating heat of its own.

Might be worth checking the contacts in the baton holder for signs of heat or arcing, and perhaps clean up the contacts or replace the fitting.
