Hi folks, just a quick one. Friend of mine has asked me to go round and check out his hall light as he seems to be replacing lamps in it alot more than any other light in the house.

I have never really heard of this before? Only thing I could think of is a possible loose connection and its causeing them to burn out? (Iam gueesing though)!

Anyway Iam going round to have a look after work tomorrow and was hoping to maybe get a few suggestions to what might be causing it to point me in the right direction?

Cheers
Ted

Also dont get caught out Joe Public has no sense of time for example when I go to fix an alarm I say when was the battery replaced they all say 2-3 ago but when I check its 6-7 years ago.

Also track spots with GU10 lamp remember when you buy the fitting you get 4 lamp all 4 are switched on/off at the same time but these lamps have a very tight manufacturers tolerence so when a lamp goes on a Monday another will go on the Tuesday and then Thursday so you get there is something wrong as all the lamps went within days of each other

What kind of lamps we talking and do the lamps stay on all the time due to a naturally dim hallway or left on at night for the kids in bed, a 1000hr lamp dont last very long if its on 10hrs a day (3months)

When lamps are blowing regularly the main suspects are:
1) Poor quality lamps.
2) Over-voltage, +5% over-voltage will more than halve the life expectancy of the lamp.
3) Loose connections.
4) Poor quality lamp holders, particularly batten fittings.
5) Power quality, surges, noise and harmonics can all shorten the life expectancy of the lamp.
6) Rapid switching of the lamp ON and OFF ie. Short duration use.
