Hi all,

I have recently been in contact with a few people reagarding contracts on the London underground and hospital maintenance. Btoth have asked me to become a NICEIC approved contractor for them to pass me on the the contracts totally to about 300k a year.

I am wondering has anyone secured a large contract by not being registered to NICEIC? Is it possible to get a contract in UK being registered to NAPIT?

One other question, can the jobs you show NICEIC assessor be already notified to NAPIT or do they have to be non-notified work? As I need 5 Jobs to show NICEIC i was gonna use some of my old jobs I notified to NAPIT for assessment. This ok?

Thank You in advance.

I dont see any reason why you cant use them for assessment.

After all, it was still you that did the work.

Any employer can pretty much insist that you meet certain criteria for subby for them, plus, i havent heard of any large contracts being handed out to non NIC companies, not saying that there wasnt.

If your going to do large contracts make dure you get your finance's sorted, most main contractors pay a monthly valuation, 1st valuation after 45 days then monthly, they will then deduct tax and 5% retention 1st payday 75 day's after you started the job!

I think Napit is for Part P and therefore domestic installation, I think approved contractors are only NICEIC or ECA.
I have my assessment next week so need 5 jobs to go to to with the assessor. I am really not looking forward to what could be a very long day.
I am at present with the ECA but so many architects etc will only accept NIC.
Strangely though it is much cheaper to be in the NIC rather than ECA .
My subscription this year to the ECA would have been £900 ish, but then you also have to have Elecsa or Napit ect for part P so a total of about £1350. To be an approved NIC contractor it is about £450 for a year and that includes Part P

So are you gonna use your previously notified jobs for your NIC assessment? or new ones that you havent notified yet?

Thanks mate and good luck with your assessment

Good point! Thanks. Therefore on under 50kw installs there is a grey area that I can't work out what's compliant and what isn't.
