Hi guys
on a site today and an in house sparks was takeing tempratures using a laser thermometer from cables and terminals within a db,just wondering what he was actually doing and why,any ideas.

checking cables and terminals for overheating. i've got one.

pvc cable is rated up to 70deg. C. but rarely reaches anywhere near that. if, say you had a poor connection in a MCB terminal, this would cause excessive heat due to high resistance. i have rarely found a cable to read over 40deg.
