I know this has been asked before and its been really helpful reading the various threads...But I thought I'd ask it again for an update view from you guys.

We are a very small company. There are only three of us...two skilled proper tradesmen..and me who does everything not involving a screwdriver or tool of any kind... (the other two get afraid if they see me with a tool in my hand)..... Like a lot on this forum we have been installing pv and thermal for the large nationals for about 18 months. However few months back we took the plunge and now deal direct with the public....while also still installing for the larger "salesy type pv companies"....

As we can't afford and don't want to start door knockers or telecanvassers we've been using Price Engines for three months. We've bought 50 leads of which we have quoted 30 jobs. Of that we have won 15 orders. Of the 15 we didn't get we lost half on price and the rest because the folks decided not to go ahead with anybody for various reasons.

So for us the figures seem to work. We are very much finding our feet while trying to get a handle on the long term viability of pv and how best to get in front of potential buyers.

My main gripe with Price Engines is they "do not guarantee an appointment" and tell me no company does. I've sent back 20 leads via their Quality COntrol buttons of which they have accepted five...but with no real reason other than an act of good faith..

So longer story short....how are you guys finding lead generation companies....is my experience the same or are there any better or worse ones...

thanks

my experience tell me that 15/50 is a excellent converstion rate. also they are good if you are just selling on price as by definition the customer is looking on-line to get a cheap quote, 90% of these customer price is the main variable, so if you are skilled able to show you know your stuff and able to offer cheap installs then your on to a winner.

Don't like to broad brush things but I'm finding the more professional the customer and the better the house......the more chance I have of getting the job at a decent price.....Also because we have a 30 year trading history and are a small company this works in our favour. I've also found that waiting until they have had the other companies in works for me.....the ex council house type of buyer is usually price driven...but again its dangerous to generalise...We are just hoping there is a long term future here as its an enjoyable business to be in...
