LED Dimmer

Hi all,

Just installed 6 dimmable LEDs on a dimmer but they a flickering like mad!

Is there a special dimmer switch needed for dimmable LEDs?

Is there a minimum wattage rating on the dimmer?
Does it work properly if you swap one of the LEDs for a 'normal' bulb?

They are mains voltage.
The dimmer is rated upto 400W. crabtree.

Will try with a halogen GU10 tommorow, but the client wants LEDs

No a MINimum rating, eg 20W - 400W. Most dimmers need a certain amount of current to operate. You might need a special low wattage dimmer.

Buy a trailing edge dimmer. Varilight do them and they work great, no flickering and no noise. Screwfix do them for under a tenner I think. Use them all the time when fitting dimmable LEDs and if you read the instructions on the Halers units you're allowed to fully load a trailing edge dimmer whereas a leading edge dimmer is limited to only a few units (can't remember exact figure unfortunately).
