Hi guys

Does any of you know much about LEDs and dimmers. Got a guy that wants these fancy LEDs from various suppliers all on dimmers and in grid switch. I know MK do dimmers so was heading towards the MK gridswitch. I was told by my supplier that you need to get the dimmer for that specific light. Could you help me out a little please

Yes, thats what i was hoping to do but the company that can supply the lights dont do the grid system, just opened the wiring matters magazine and theres sn article in there "what is the problem with dimming leds" will have a quick read

As long as the specific LED manufacturer doesn't state otherwise then any trailing edge dimmer will be suitable to dim the LED lights. Attention must be paid to the minimum and maximum loading of the dimmer, for example, if you have 6 x 6W LEDs (36W total) then a standard 50-250W dimmer simply will not work and you risk damaging the lamps, the dimmer or both. In this scenario you would need to spec either a low load dimmer (5-50W for example) or a dummy load to bring the circuit's apparent power up to a 50VA minimum.

There are both normal and low load trailing edge dimmers on the market that are compatible with MK's grid systems, links below :)

I had an 'issue' with a now ex customer after installing a load of 4.5w led downlighters, he got a couple of quite expensive touch sensitive dimmers, I said they will not work as they don't go low enough on the load, anyway he said they will as it says LED compatible in screwfix, I said yeah but your lamps use 36w I think and your switch wants 40w, anyway it didn't work, he was peed off with me when it wasn't my fault.

Just had a customer call tonight that I'm finishing a job off tomorrow and they just said can they have a dimmer on there led lights... I said yep but it will cost you as its got to be a double as its going in the same switch as the other light.

Has anybody dimmed 10 of the jcc7 LEDs as the manufacturer states they can Richmond dimmer can be used but having installed one in a grid the fittings are strobing.
I spoke to Richmond and they say although JCC say max of 10 they have only had reliability with a maximum of 8 fittings.
My client is obviously not happy as I talked them into dimmable LEDs and now they appear to have unwanted party lighting!!!
Any help would be grateful
